JAMS Principal Paula Montgomery just released a survey asking future JAMS students to vote on the new school mascot!

Here is the link: JAMS Mascot Survey link, Students Only

How exciting! Please help spread the word so that as many future students as possible can vote!

  1. Why are "Jets" about Jane Addams the person? Suffragettes? She was a social reformer, peace activist and Nobel laureate.

  2. Out of curiosity, what was its mascot when Jane Addams was Jane Addams Junior High?

  4. It took some searching, but based on ebay listings of a couple of 1980s yearbooks, it looks as if the historical mascot was the "Jaguars."

It sounds as though they were originally the Jaguars, and the colors were red and black. The SPS archivist should be able to give us the history.

  7. According to a friend of mine who went to Jane Addams Jr. High, they were, indeed, the Jaguars.

  8. I like the idea of using the historical mascot and having some connection to the school's past. I think the school colors were red and black - I hope they can be in the running for the JAMS school colors.

As a general comment, it seems the feedback loop is limited to those that happen to check the website, as opposed to messages being sent directly to students. I appreciate this site, and I realize JAMS now has an official SPS fusion page, but does anyone know why the district has not sent messages to families directly? It seems many families are being left out of the loop.

  9. As an Eckstein teacher, I know that a lot of the students did not even find out that they were going to Jane Addams until this past Friday when we started the registration for next year. Many were really mad that they would not be at Eckstein in the fall. Maybe this is something that JAMS looks at in September as part of a community building experience. This would give more students a chance to participate as well.

    1. You make a good point -- it could be a community building opportunity. Part of the idea behind doing it now was that the mascot and school colors could be incorporated into the finishes of the building as it's remodeled this summer.

  10. Who came up with this list? Jackals? Seriously?

Why not just an open ask? Truly poll the students, instead of giving them a list to consider? (The 'other' is not the same as just keeping it open -- 'other''s chances of success are about the same as a write-in candidate)

For school colors, can the poll just say:

    1. What color is your #1 choice? #2 choice? #3 choice?

    2. What 2 color combo is your #1 choice? #2 choice?

    -not jams jackals

  12. From what I understand, Principal Montgomery does not have a list of the students who will be assigned to JAMS, so she is unable to send out mailings like one asking for school mascot and color ideas. Also there is no way to directly notify families regarding information nights, etc...

There is now a listing for JAMS on the school directory, which links to the Fusion page, so hopefully that will be helpful.
